In Sydenham pastoral care is the responsibility of three groups of people.
The minister has primary responsibility for the pastoral care of the members of the congregation. Her priorities are those who are ill at home or in hospital, those who have been recently bereaved and those facing personal crises, such as marital problems, pending unemployment or spiritual issues. The Pastoral Assistant visits the elderly, both in their own homes and in residential or nursing homes. Particular attention is paid to those who live alone and to those no longer able to attend church. There is a team of over thirty Congregational Visitors. Each visits a number of homes in the congregation three or four times each year. They often do so at the time when they deliver the Church Magazine.
