Local Preachers are lay men and women who have been trained and are fully accredited to conduct services and to preach.
Local preachers may also assist at services of Holy Communion, but may not preside. On some circuits, one minister has responsibility for several churches, and so local preachers are required every Sunday. They usually operate in the circuit where they are members or on neighbouring circuits. Some local preachers also assist in the conduct of Bible Studies or in the leadership of House Groups. In the Sydenham circuit, in February 2010, there are nine fully accredited local preachers, some with many years of experience, and one in training.
